Hitachi-Omron Terminal Solutions publishes whitepaper on the role of recycling technology in retail

back office

Hitachi-Omron Terminal Solutions urges retailers with a heavy flow of cash to realize potential of automated banknote

recycling technology

Tokyo, April 25th, 2014 -- Hitachi-Omron Terminal Solutions, Corp. (Hitachi-Omron Terminal Solutions), a subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (TSE: 6501, "Hitachi") has today announced it has published a whitepaper on the role and benefits of banknote recycling technology to major retailers. Hitachi-Omron Terminal Solutions urges retailers with a heavy flow of cash to review the potential of automated recycling technology.

IIn the whitepaper, Hitachi-Omron Terminal Solutions has revealed that greater efficiency in dealing with the continuing flow of cash in the retail back office environment can lead to significant savings and the obtaining of value from retail cash sales. In a trial for a retail company running with 400 stores and a turnover in excess of USD $100 million, an installed cash recycling technology system paid for itself within a year through reductions in staff costs, administrative errors and the increasing of overall security of cash payments.

Hitachi-Omron Terminal Solutions' findings are based on forecasts that show cash will continue to be used extensively in both developed and emerging markets, despite the growth in alternative payments methods such as cellphones. Estimates by the consulting firm RBR in its "Global ATM Market and Forecasts to 2018" report have found this is being driven by an increase in the global estate of cash dispensers which will reach 3.7m by 2018 - an increase of 44% in six years.

Furthermore, Hitachi-Omron Terminal Solutions forecast that the widespread utilization of cash recycling technology will lead to less Cash-in-Transit expenses, meaning that retailers will be able to significantly lower both the costs and the risks of moving cash in order to obtain its value.
