FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Hitachi Finger Vein Authentication System to be
introduced to
CAIXA ECONOMICA FEDERAL
First finger vein authentication ATM in Brazil.
Tokyo, August 25, 2008 --- Hitachi-Omron Terminal Solutions, Corp.
(Representative Director President & CEO, Akihiko Otani) today
announced that its contact-free finger vein authentication system will be
introduced to the ATMs of CAIXA ECONOMICA FEDERAL (President, Maria
Fernanda Ramos Coelho. Hereinafter referred to as CAIXA) for personal
authentication.
As a countermeasure against increasing number of
financial crimes, CAIXA will begin a pilot program this year for the
finger vein authentication system on their ATMs. Its high accuracy despite
the relatively small data size, fast authentication speed, compact size of
the device and high usability combined together have led to the
introduction of the finger vein authentication system.
CAIXA plans
to introduce 100 ATMs equipped with contact-free finger vein
authentication devices manufactured by DIEBOLD PROCOMP, the Brazil-based
division of Diebold, Incorporated. In addition to the conventional PIN
authentication, ATM users will enjoy a much higher level of security,
thanks to the finger vein authentication, which identifies them by
matching their finger vein patterns with pre-registered
data.

various market needs with its diverse set of solutions for a safer

The finger vein authentication technology is a biometric technology developed by Hitachi Ltd. It conducts authentication using finger vein patterns. Because finger veins are inside the body, it is extremely difficult to spoof or forge. Near-infrared light, which is shot through a finger, enables the capturing of intricate finger vein patterns and also a high level of accuracy without having the user touch the sensor part. Along with personal authentication for ATMs, PC sign-in and access control, the compact size of the device opens up possibilities for applications in a wide range of fields.
